The 2023 VelocityX Climate Innovation Hackathon, held from March 30-31, has now come to a close. The event centered around addressing the pressing concerns of climate change and rising sea levels in Southern Maryland, and featured two unique challenges: a data visualization challenge and a marketing strategy challenge. The hackathon was put on by The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) in partnership with Charles County Government.
The two-day event featured local climate change leaders, including representatives from the Sierra Club Chapter of Maryland & Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. Among the notable winning solutions was a data visualization tool to predict sea level rise, a website designed to assess the risk of sea level rise on properties, and an app that provides real-time community updates on flooding.
Congratulations to all the participants who contributed their innovative ideas and solutions toward addressing the crucial issue of climate change. A special shout-out to the 2023 VelocityX Climate Innovation Hackathon Winners:
