Tackling Climate Change in Southern Maryland: College of Southern Maryland’s (CSM) VelocityX: Climate Innovation Hackathon
In partnership with Ensemble and Brightidea, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) just launched its second annual hybrid VelocityX Hackathon, taking place from March 30-31, 2023. This year’s hackathon will focus on tackling the issue of climate change and rising sea levels impacting Southern Maryland. This is a crucial issue for the region, as rising sea levels have the potential to severely impact coastal communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems.
The event will feature two unique challenges, one focused on data visualization and the other on marketing strategy. Participants will have the opportunity to work in teams and collaborate with other participants, as well as learn from experts and industry leaders in the field of climate change, including Rachael Bateman from CSM and Campbell Hawkins from SMECO. Whether you are a student, professional, or community member, you are welcome to participate and contribute your ideas and solutions.
Ensemble is proud to be part of the design and execution of this event for the second year in a row! Last year, the Hackathon brought together local students, scientists, and inventors from the Southern Maryland community to come together at the Velocity Center, a newly constructed community makerspace, and solve one of two community-based problems for cash prizes. We are excited to do it again this year and see the community’s innovative solutions to the climate change problems impacting them directly.
